Environmental Services team set to celebrate EVS Week
9/8/2011
The week of September 11 – 17 is National Environmental Services Week, and the EVS team at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital (LCRH) will be treated to a week of special recognition and activities in celebration of the vital services they provide for the hospital and outpatient centers each day.
The EVS team is comprised of 58 individuals from Pulaski, McCreary, Lincoln, Casey, Wayne and Russell Counties. Divided into various shifts, these team members are responsible for maintaining cleanliness at the hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“I am impressed each day to see how much pride our EVS team members take in the job they do,” said Brandon Dugger, LCRH Director of Environmental Services. “We want to acknowledge and publicly express our appreciation to our team for their diligence, commitment, and teamwork in making sure we meet community standards and our personal standards for cleanliness and service every day of the year.”
In addition to patient-related responsibilities such as performing daily patient room cleaning, check-out and transfer cleaning, the team is also responsible for supplying, distributing, and collecting linens throughout the facility, stripping and waxing floors, mopping and cleaning all public areas and removal of trash. With a 295-bed hospital, this is quite an impressive task. In fact, through August, 2010, the EVS team performed 12,676 room checkout/transfer cleans, averaging 52 checkouts/transfers each day during 2011.
In addition to their commitment to excellence, the EVS team works well together. According to Dugger, the EVS team averages 5.25 years experience each – which helps them to efficiently complete their work to ensure that patients, guests, physicians and other team members have a clean environment. One example of this longevity is Mary Loveless, who, at 30 years and 10 months, is the longest-tenured EVS team member at LCRH.
“I am truly blessed to be able to come to work every day with this team,” concluded Dugger. “This special week gives us a wonderful opportunity to publicly express our appreciation to a great team who consistently make a difference in making certain the “face” of the hospital is always scrubbed and ready.”
