Hospital receives KODA 2010 Tissue Donation Performance Award
9/20/2011
Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital has received the 2010 Tissue Donation Performance Award from KODA, Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates. KODA is an organ procurement organization that ensures Kentuckians are aware of the benefits of organ and tissue donation, and that they have the information necessary to make individual, informed choices regarding donation.
LCRH is one of 16 hospitals out of 112 in the KODA service area to receive this recognition. This is the first year LCRH has received this recognition. The award was based on a conversion formula which required that a hospital have ten or more suitable cases in 2010, and that of those ten, at least 25 percent be consented to use for donations. At LCRH in 2010, 24 cases were deemed suitable for tissue donation and 6 were consented for donation.
Lake Cumberland Regional’s partnership with KODA is paramount to its success in increasing life-saving donations. KODA provides staff members who specialize in working with donor families as well as provide important education to hospital personnel. Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital also has an organ and tissue donation committee, led by clinicians, chaplains and KODA representatives, to maintain awareness of the organ and tissue donation program, increase the number of donations and honor the generosity of donor families.
