The week of October 3 – 7 is Food & Nutrition Service Week throughout the United States. Locally, Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital is recognizing their dedicated team members in this department.
“We are so grateful for the dedication of our food and nutrition services team,” said Brent Tarter, director of food and nutrition services. “These 39 individuals work tirelessly to ensure that our patients, guests, physicians, and hospital team members are provided nutritious meals.”
Taking care of the food and nutrition needs for patients in a 295-bed hospital is no small task. With some of 36,000 meals each month for patients, doctors and staff, the FNS team prepare an average of 432,000 meals each year. Included in that number are specially ordered diets for patients with particular nutrition needs, such as soft diets, low sodium, calculated, pureed, and liquid diets per doctor’s instructions. The six LCRH Registered Dieticians consult with patients seven days a week to provide nutrition education, support and intervention.
FNS team offers a wide variety of food options in the hot bar at Chatters Café, as well as always their ever-popular made-to-order options from the grill. They do double-duty as caterers, too, preparing foods and serving for most of the special functions at the hospital, from medical staff meetings to community gatherings.
“This special week gives us a great opportunity to publicly express our appreciation to a great group of folks who are key members of our hospital team,” concluded Tarter. “It is a privilege to work with them.”
