iAfter you deliver your baby, you will be taken to the Postpartum Unit where you will stay for approximately two to three days. At Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, our team strives to ensure that you receive the support you need in the days following delivery on our postpartum-care unit.
Our family-centered care approach encourages keeping your baby with you at your bedside. This is referred to as "rooming-in" and provides you with an opportunity to bond with your child and learn early cues or signs of hunger and how to care for your baby with our staff to assist you.
Support in caring for yourself. Throughout your stay, we encourage parents to learn about:
Lactation Services. Lactation consultants are available during your hospital stay. Our nurses have extensive training and can help you be successful with breastfeeding or learning how to formula feed.
Access to specialty care. Soon after your baby is born, our pediatric hospitalists will visit your baby. They are on-call 24/7.
Visitation: Patients are limited to 2 WELL visitors at a time. For visits with children, please call 606.678.3322
Quite time: Every day from 2 -3 p.m., we have quiet time on our Mother and Baby Unit. We turn down overhead lights, ask visitors to silence their cellphones and allow you to have time with your baby and your family, or to rest without the interruption of the hospital staff.
Security measures: We want our new parents to feel secure that their baby is also safe and sound. For that reason, Lake Cumberland has instituted a number of security measures to ensure that our newborns are safe and there is no confusion in keeping the newborn with their family. Both mother and baby are given matching identification bracelets to ensure that the right baby gets to the right mother.
Going home: We will make sure you have follow up appointments for you and your baby before you go home. You also must choose a name for your baby before discharge. Please remember that birth certificate forms must be completed before you and your child are discharged from the hospital. You will be given the proper paper work to order your child's’ birth certificate, which you can complete after you return home.
Car Seat Safety: Car seats and boosters provide protection for infants and children in a crash. Prior to admission to the hospital, it is highly recommended that your car seat base be properly installed and inspected to facilitate taking your baby home safely.
