Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital honors Bambie Sinclair with the prestigious DAISY Award for Compassionate Care

June 5, 2019

Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital has honored nurse, Bambie Sinclair of the Pediatric/Internal Agency Unit, with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses in recognition for her commitment and patient-centered approach to care. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

The not-for-profit DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), an autoimmune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique way of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

LCRH’s first DAISY honoree of 2019, Bambie, is often described as a warm, optimistic, and a refreshing presence in her department. She is passionate, attentive, and a true difference maker. Many see her as a mentor and friendly, team player who places a large focus on patient experience and safety. A true leader, Bambie brings a wealth of knowledge in various skills and is more than willing to assist in any way that is necessary to enhance the workflow of the unit. Bambie is a recipient of the DAISY Award because she approaches situations with a great, positive attitude and is proactive in providing excellent patient care.

Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues. Each quarter, the DAISY Award recipient is selected by LCRH’s Image and Community Council, comprised of nursing leadership and peers. At a quarterly presentation given in front of team members, executive leadership, physicians, and family, recipients receive recognition for being “Extraordinary Nurses.” They are presented with a certificate, a DAISY Award pin and a beautiful hand-carved sculpture entitled “The Healer’s Touch.” Additionally, the honoree is celebrated with Cinnabon iced cinnamon rolls- a favorite of Patrick’s during his illness.

“We are proud to be among the hospital systems participating in The DAISY Award program,” says Robert Parker, CEO of Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. “Nurses are heroes every day. It’s important that they know their work is highly valued, and The DAISY Foundation provides another way for us to do that.”
