POUNDS OFF PULASKI Weigh-Ins Tuesday
With the New Year just beginning, people often take the time to and review their lives and try to think of ways to improve: exercise more, be healthier . . . lose a few pounds.
If your plans for the New Year includes living a healthier lifestyle or trying to lose weight, Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce may have just the right program to help you in your quest for a healthier you.
Pounds Off Pulaski (POP), a twelve-week county-wide weight-loss challenge spearheaded by the two organizations, may be “just what the doctor ordered.”
POP is open to individuals aged 18 or over who live and/or work in Pulaski County. Registering for this great program is easy. You can pre-register online at http://somersetpulaskichamber.com , stop by the Chamber of Commerce office or visit the Senior Friends office at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital to pick up a registration form. The registration fee is only $25.
Tuesday, January 6, is the initial weigh-in for this year’s competition. It will be held at The Center for Rural Development from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon; 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. If you haven’t pre-registered, you can also bring your registration fee and complete the paperwork at that time.
If January 6 is not convenient for you, you may also weigh in from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. This weigh-in will be held just prior to the first weekly meeting of the program and will be the last opportunity to participate in POP 2015. No registrations will be accepted after January 12.
Organizations that form a team of at least 25 people may have an on-site weigh-in. Just email the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital marketing department email@example.com to arrange for a weigh-in at your office, school, or company. The weigh-in must be held during the work week of January 5 – January 9.
“We are excited about our 3rd annual Pounds Off Pulaski program,” said Susan Ramsey Wilson, director of marketing and community relations at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. “We hope that participating in this program will help individuals get off to a healthier start for 2015.”
During the 12-week challenge, weekly POP meetings will be held each Monday in the Conference Centers on the basement level of Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Weekly weigh-ins begin at 5:00 p.m., with the meeting to follow at 6:00 p.m. These meetings are designed to provide support, information, and helpful tools to help participants keep on track so they can reach their personal goals.
Speakers at the weekly meetings will provide information on a variety of subjects from exercise to nutrition to the psychology of weight loss to keeping a journal. Participants will also be able to weigh in at the weekly POP meetings. The speaker for the first meeting on January 12 will be John C. Mobley, M.D., bariatric surgeon, who will get participants off to a great start.
POP (incentive) Points accumulated for meeting certain goals during the challenge will count toward fun prizes which will be awarded throughout the 12-week program. At the end of the challenge, the two males and two females who have the highest percentage of weight loss will win cash prizes and all participants who complete the challenge will receive a celebration T-shirt – hopefully a size or two smaller than they used to wear.
“We are grateful to our Community Partners, who provide discounts for our POP participants, incentive prizes or support,” said Wilson.
