Q: What is your role at LCRH and how long have you worked here?
A: I have worked at LCRH for a year and a half in the telemetry care unit (TCU).
Q: What would you be doing if you weren't working in healthcare?
A: If I had to choose, I would choose a career in criminal justice. However Nursing is the career I've dreamed of my entire life.
Q: What does a typical day look like for your at Lake Cumberland?
A: We encounter a variety of patient populations on TCU. My tasks involve caring for patients requiring cardiac catheterization, administering necessary cardiac drips and providing treatments for illnesses such as COPD, Pneumonia, CHF, etc.
Q: How has your day-to-day changed since the coronavirus pandemic?
A: My day-to-day hasn't hasn't changed drastically since the COVID pandemic. We continue to treat patients as we would before however, we take more safety precautions and remain alert to signs and symptoms that could be linked to the virus. I have decided to travel to Georgia to assist with the COVID-19 Crisis. I have contemplated traveling to other parts of the country since this virus began to affect the US. After hearing and seeing videos of my fellow healthcare workers pleading for help, I knew I had to play my part. I am grateful for the opportunity as well as the support from staff and family in making this decision.
Q: What's saving your life right now?
A: Family, friends, collegues and the compassion from the community are my saving grace during this time period. My family in Jamaica contact me on daily basis to offer words of inspiration and I will hold on to those words dearly until I get to visit them in person.
