Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Achieves Gold in Eon’s Center of Excellence Program
December 8, 2023

Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital (LCRH) is excited to announce that its Lung Nodule Program has achieved Gold in Eon's Center of Excellence (ECOE) program. ECOE Gold is awarded to a select few programs that have gone above and beyond in all aspects of managing patients with incidental pulmonary nodules and ensuring they receive the right care at the right time.
With a commitment to helping facilities improve the early capture and longitudinal care of incidentally identified pulmonary nodules, the ECOE partners with healthcare facilities and professionals to improve patient outcomes and ensure all patients receive the appropriate care and follow-up treatment.
Programs awarded gold also exhibit meticulous efforts to ensure patients are returning for follow-up care at their facility. ECOE Gold programs ensure all patients in their program have the next expected steps of care, persistently communicate with patients and providers about exam results and upcoming follow-ups, and clearly execute all necessary steps that positively impact patient care.
"Attaining Gold Tier status is a testament to our ongoing commitment to fostering healthier communities," states Robert Parker, Chief Executive Officer at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. "Our goal is to ensure patients receive proper screenings and treatment to prevent future illnesses and lead to better outcomes for our patients. Achieving ECOE Gold is a true testament to our physicians, providers, nurses, technologists, and team members for their hard work, determination, and unwavering commitment to providing patients with the best care possible."
Incidental Pulmonary Nodules, or lung nodules, are small masses found in the lungs, often discovered incidentally during scans for unrelated reasons. These nodules, usually a result of a previous infection, can lead to serious illnesses, including cancer.
"Jessica Simpson, RN, our lung health nurse navigator, diligently follows up with patients to ensure no one falls through the cracks," says Nathan Bennett, FACHE, CPPS, RT (R), (CT), Senior Director of Imaging Services at LCRH. " This positive patient outcome would not be possible without her and our dedicated CT Technologists."
The ECOE, a respected authority in evaluating and accrediting medical institutions, recognizes Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital’s dedication to the highest standards of patient care, clinical expertise, and innovative practices. The Gold Tier Accreditation for Incidental Pulmonary Nodules is a testament to this commitment, showcasing LCRH's dedication to exceptional healthcare services.
The journey to this esteemed accreditation involved rigorous evaluation, strategic process improvement initiatives, and an unwavering dedication to patient-centered care. Bennett states, "Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital prioritizes clinical excellence, continuous learning, and patient safety, surpassing the rigorous standards set forth by the ECOE. The exceptional dedication and commitment to improving patient outcomes have set us apart and earned us this impressive recognition. We look forward to continuing to positively impact patient lives every day."
