July 03, 2025
Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital (LCRH) is delighted to announce that Andrew Haist, RN, has been awarded the DAISY Award® for his remarkable dedication to patient care, leadership, and mentorship in the Intensive Care Unit.
The DAISY Award, an internationally recognized accolade, honors nurses who provide exceptional, compassionate care. Andrew was selected as a quarterly DAISY Award recipient by LCRH’s nurse leadership team after receiving glowing nominations from patients and families who have experienced his outstanding dedication firsthand.
With 12 years of experience as a registered nurse, Andrew has been an integral part of the LCRH team, serving in the ICU throughout his entire career. He spent nearly a decade working the night shift from 2013 to 2022 before transitioning to day shift duties. As a charge nurse, Andrew not only manages critical patient care but also plays a crucial role as a preceptor for newly hired nurses, guiding them with his wealth of experience and compassionate mentorship.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Andrew is a devoted family man. He resides in Somerset with his wife, where they are raising their four children. His commitment to family and community further reflects his compassionate spirit and dedication to nurturing the next generation.
The DAISY Foundation, founded in honor of J. Patrick Barnes, celebrates nurses for their exceptional contributions to patient care. Recipients of the DAISY Award at LCRH are honored during a special ceremony, receiving a certificate, a DAISY Award® pin, an exclusive parking spot, and a hand-carved "A Healer’s Touch" sculpture. The celebration also includes iced cinnamon rolls, a beloved treat of Patrick’s, symbolizing the acknowledgment of extraordinary nurses like Andrew.
Tanya Nelson-Hackney, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, CPPS, Chief Nursing Officer at LCRH, remarked, “Andrew embodies the true spirit of nursing. His unwavering dedication, compassion, and leadership have a profound impact on his patients, colleagues, and the future of nursing at LCRH. We are proud to celebrate him with this well-deserved DAISY Award.”
