Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital presents the DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Care to Shanon Dobbs
November 29, 2023

Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital (LCRH) proudly announces Shanon Dobbs, RN, as the latest recipient of the prestigious DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses. This accolade underscores Shanon's unwavering commitment and patient-centered approach to delivering exceptional healthcare. The DAISY Award acknowledges the outstanding contributions of nurses, recognizing their extraordinary efforts as part of the DAISY Foundation's mission.
The DAISY Foundation, a not-for-profit organization based in Glen Ellen, CA, was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who tragically passed away at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), an autoimmune disease. Inspired by the exceptional care Patrick and his family received from nurses during his illness, the foundation aims to express gratitude to nurses for their profound impact on patients and their families.
Shanon Dobbs, a valued member of the Neuro Intensive Care Unit nursing team, earned this nomination through a heartfelt recommendation from the family of a former patient. A family member expressed their gratitude, stating, "She revealed much compassion and was so very thoughtful and kind."
Nominations for the DAISY Award are welcomed from patients, families, and colleagues. LCRH's nurse leadership team oversees the selection of the quarterly DAISY Award recipient. The honoree is celebrated with a special brunch attended by team members, executive leadership, physicians, and peers. Recipients receive a certificate, a DAISY Award® pin, an exclusive parking spot, and a beautifully hand-carved sculpture titled "A Heather’s Touch." Additionally, they are treated to iced cinnamon rolls, a favorite of Patrick’s during his illness.
Tanya Nelson-Hackney, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, CPPS, Chief Nursing Officer at LCRH, extends her heartfelt congratulations to Shanon for this well-deserved DAISY Award recognition. "We commend Shanon for her exceptional commitment to delivering quality, patient-centered care. At Lake Cumberland, we take immense pride in being a partner of the DAISY Award program. This award serves as a formal expression of gratitude for our nurses' unwavering dedication, compassion, and service to our community."
